RESCUES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN

The Mediterranean Sea is the most dangerous migratory route in the world. In 2016, more than 5,000 people drowned here – a figure that does not seem to alarm the European Union (EU). Most of those who take to the sea on overcrowded and unseaworthy boats follow the central route, from Libya to Italy. We bring you the stories of people who, in their efforts to escape violence and extreme poverty, are risking their lives to reach the other side.
