CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC: STUCK IN LIMBO
Chapter V: Transit

CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC: STUCK IN LIMBO: Transit

On the Central African side of the border with Chad is a small camp known as the ‘transit camp’. Some 1,000 refugees and returnees live there. So who are they? They are Central Africans who fled during the war to neighbouring Chad and later decided to return to their own country.

On returning, they found a closed border, soldiers who extorted money from them and a camp with almost no assistance. This is what greets Central African refugees who want to return home. This is the situation they find themselves in when they want to stop being refugees and return to their country.
